Sue Sundermeyer

March 29, 1934 — April 27, 2023

Sue Rita (Hendricks) Sundermeyer died peacefully on April 27, 2023, at the Neillsville Retirement Community in Neillsville, Wisconsin. She was born to Harry and Eva Hendricks in Rinard, Iowa, on March 29, 1934. Her family moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa, when Sue was 10 years of age, later graduating from Fort Dodge High School in 1951.

Sue worked as a nurse's aide at Mercy Hospital in Fort Dodge in the OB Nursery and Pediatrics Center and served as a teller at Fort Dodge Bank before marrying Leonard Harlan Sundermeyer in 1956. The couple then moved to Pensacola, Florida, where Harlan was stationed in the U.S. Navy, later moving back to Fort Dodge following his military service. Sue worked at a local radio station as a clerk and the couple farmed in both Bode and Humboldt, Iowa.

They started a family and moved to Wisconsin in 1961 to continue their love of farming in Dorchester and Curtiss. She worked as an aide at the Clark County Hospital in Owen, and then moved to Neillsville in 1977 where Sue worked as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) at Memorial Medical Center. In 1981, the family moved to Thermopolis, Wyoming, where she worked at the local nursing home and the Pioneer Home doing general housekeeping duties.

The family returned to Wisconsin in 1989 and Sue resumed her duties as a CNA for Memorial Medical before retiring. During her retirement she loved to knit, work on crafts and jigsaw puzzles, play cards, attend church services, and visit with her many friends and family members.

Sue and Harlan had six children: Steve (Barb Rolfing); Brenda (Mike Kowalski); Julie (Mark Foster); Richard (Kara Hurd), Karen; and Daniel (Erin Grammer). There are 14 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, and she loved every one of them, often telling friends how proud she was of her wonderful family.

A celebration of life will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church in Neillsville on June 10, 2023, at 11 a.m. Pastor Chad Anderson will preside over the service, which includes a private interment at the Town of Holton (Christ Lutheran) Cemetery near Abbotsford. A visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 10 a.m.
