Emblem

Lowell H. Gress, of Neillsville, passed away at Marshfield Medical Center on April 25, 2026, at the age of 93.

Lowell was born on September 11, 1932, in Neillsville, Wisconsin, the son of Arthur and Viva (Raether) Gress.

Lowell attended Neillsville Public Schools and, after graduating, enlisted in the United States Navy, serving from 1952 to 1954. He was a machinist's mate third class aboard the fleet oiler USS Navasota with the Seventh Fleet. He was honorably discharged in 1954. Upon returning to Neillsville, he was united in marriage to Cara Jean Jones. They later divorced.

He owned and operated the family business, Gress Wrecking Yard, with his brother Robert until retiring in 2003.

He was awarded a lifelong membership with The American Legion Post 73 in Neillsville.

Lowell was a lifelong mechanic and scrapper. He loved keeping busy with his hands, tinkering and taking things apart. He would rather repair something than replace it.

Lowell had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at his cabin in Hatfield. He especially looked forward to his annual fishing trips with friends up north. In his later years, he rarely missed his weekend visits to see the kids and get out of the house.

He is survived by his son, Scott (Sharon) Gress of Neillsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Viva Gress; his brother, Robert Gress; and his son, Donald Gress.

Per Lowell's wishes, there will be no services. A private family service will be held at a later date.
