Larry Gene McDonald, age 82, formerly of Neillsville, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026, at the House of Dove in Marshfield.
Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was known for his hardworking nature and love for fixing and building things. On July 23, 1983, he married the love of his life, Eldray “Elly” McDonald, and together they built a life centered around simple joys caring for their home and yard.
He dedicated 38 years of service as the patrolman to the Township of Pine Valley in Neillsville, where he was respected for his strong work ethic and commitment to his community.
Larry had a passion for tinkering in his garage, especially working on his beloved 1950 Chevy pickup. He found peace and happiness spending countless hours on his 20-acre property, which he and Elly referred to as Paradise Acres on Sidney Avenue, where he enjoyed the outdoors and the satisfaction of working with his hands.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elly McDonald; his former wife Sandy McDonald and their five children: Doug (Becky) McDonald, Lorrie (Jerry) Fredrick, Mike (Zandra) McDonald, Todd McDonald, Amanda (Jerry) Schmidt; Stepchildren, Chris North and Doug (Angie) North. Brothers, David (Donna) McDonald and Gary (Charlene) McDonald as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will carry on his legacy. He was preceded in death by his parents: Francis and Gladys McDonald, a Grandson: Joesph Salisbury, a stepson: Randy North, a brother, Robert McDonald and an infant sister Pamela McDonald
Larry will be remembered for his quiet strength, the pride he took in caring for his home and yard, his love of vintage vehicles, and his ability to fix just about anything. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A graveside burial service is currently being planned.
