Henry Robert "Bob" Shaw

July 21, 1925 — August 9, 2019

Henry Robert “Bob” Shaw passed away Friday, August 9, 2019

Bob was born July 21, 1925 at the family home on State Street in the City of Neillsville. He attended Neillsville Schools and in June 1944 he volunteered to serve in the U.S. Navy. During the Second World War, his tour of duty took him to both the Pacific and European Theaters, locations around the globe involved in the war effort.  He was honorably discharged in May 1946 as a 3rd Class Shipfitter. While in the Navy, Bob honed unique engineering skills to be used both professionally and personally, talents he used well into his retirement years. He returned to Neillsville and worked at the Neillsville Milk Products until 1949. On August 14, 1948 he married his sweetheart, Lorraine Hagedorn, in Neillsville and they had two children, Lori and John. Bob worked for Warlum-Robinson until 1954 when he and his family moved to Fond du Lac, WI where he worked for Born Heating until 1958. They then returned to Neillsville where Bob started his own business, Shaw’s Heating & Air Conditioning and conducted this business for 30 years until his retirement in 1988.

Bob was an avid fisherman and deer hunter but enjoyed fishing the most, taking any opportunity to drop a line in the water. He embraced the outdoors, especially the gorgeously forested Shaw Family property. Bob dabbled in making maple syrup and built a sawmill on the edge of the woods.  Driven by his fascination with design and a desire to create and build, projects of all shapes and sizes soon followed. With such a rich supply of both hard- and softwood lumber, the possibilities were endless. He was always willing to help anyone, anytime and could fix just about anything.

He was a member of the United Church of Christ, a member of the Masonic Lodge, a member of the American Legion Post No. 73, lifetime member of the V.F.W. Wilson Heintz Post 2241 and Honor Guard for the Post. He was very active in his Church and helped with projects.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Clara Shaw and his brothers George Jr., Louis and Clarence.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine, two children, Lori (Jerry) Kvasnicka, Rochester, MN and John Shaw, St. Louis Park, MN, grandchildren, Dylan (Ashley) Kvasnicka, Crystal, MN, and Lauren Kvasnicka, Minneapolis, MN, one sister, Edna (Richard) Lowe, Olathe, KS and many nieces and nephews.

Bob was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed being together with his family and his many friends. He will be remembered for his kind and caring manner, wit, and generosity. He will be dearly missed by wife Lorraine, his sweetheart of 73 years, and all those who knew him.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 16, 4:00 to 7:00pm at Gesche Funeral Home and one hour prior to the 11:00am memorial service on Saturday, August 17 at the United Church of Christ. There will be Military Honors accorded by the Neillsville Veterans Council.
