Helen Dasko

Helen Dasko, age 96, of Neillsville, WI died Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at the Neillsville Care and Rehabilitation Center.   Helen Tichy was born on November 9, 1921 in Levis Township, the daughter of Alois and Fanny (Pesava) Tichy.  She grew up on the family farm and attended Meadow View School After she left school she went to Chicago and worked as a housekeeper where she met and married her first husband Joseph Reznik (whom she later divorced).   Together they had two daughters Georgiana and Charmaine.  Helen worked in the factory at the Sunbeam Corporation in Chicago for over 34 years and retired in May of 1982.   While still working at Sunbeam she met and married her second husband Andrew (Andy) Dasko. They often travelled to Neillsville to visit family and friends and after they both retired they permanently moved back to the Neillsville area.   Helen always kept busy.  She worked at the Cranberry Marsh in Humbird several seasons during the harvest.  She also worked part time at the Morraine Motel doing cleaning.  Helen and Andy enjoyed traveling and made several trips to the Czech Republic to visit relatives.   Helen was fluent in the Czech language since her parents spoke Czech at home while she was growing up.  They made several trips each year back to the Chicago Area to visit family and friends.   They also traveled extensively around the United States.  She loved having family visit and enjoyed friendly card games, playing board games, and working on puzzles.   Helen was an active member of The Neillsville Chapter of AARP where she held the office of secretary and the Western Fraternal Life Association (WFLA) Lodge 303 and Lodge 408 where she held the office of President for many years.  Helen was also in a Czech singing group that entertained at different local functions and she was a Lifetime member of the Clark County Historical Society   Helen loved dancing especially the Polka and waltz and spent many hours dancing the night away at the Silver Dome.  She enjoyed bowling, gardening, canning, and walking in the woods picking blueberries, raspberries, and mushrooms.    When she was no longer able do a lot of the physical activities she sewed quilts, worked on crafts and enjoyed feeding and watching the deer and birds.   She is survived by a daughter, Charmaine Reznik, a son-in-law, Herman Rohde both of Lyons, IL, a sister, Emily Billings, a step-son, Richard (Ginger) Brend, a brother-in-law, Ron (Adreen) Dasko, six grandchildren, Deborah Rohde, Rebecca Synowiec, Jason (Donna) Rohde, Jeff (Linda) Brend, Mike (Kathleen) Brend and Eileen (Michael) Schrempp, 11 great grandchildren, Jonathan, Joseph, Heather, Jessica, Angelica, Nicole, Matthew, Ella, Bobby, Kevin and Royce and Kim and Chris, several great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew, a daughter, Georgiana Rohde, brothers, Stephen (Margaret) Tichy, Louis (Mary) Tichy, Charles (Barbara) Tichy, sisters, Frances (Frank) Holotik, Anne (Frank) Sladek, brother-in-law, Leroy Billings, nephews, Donald Sladek, Robert Tichy, Keith Billings, Billy Billings, great niece, Dawn Sladek and great nephew, Perry Grap. Funeral Services for Helen will be held at 12:00 p.m., Monday, January 22, 2018 at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. Pastor Douglas Bjerke will officiate. Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m., to 12:00 p.m., Monday at the Gesche Funeral Home.
