Clarence Castner, age 94, of Humbird, WI died, Sunday, June 3, 2018.
Clarence Edward Castner was born on May 30, 1924 in Humbird the son of George and Eveline (Olson) Castner. He served in the United States Air Force from December 28, 1951 to February 14, 1958 as an Airman First Class. He was awarded the good conduct medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the U.N. Service Medal. During his time in the Air Force, Clarence worked in Alaska and helped to build the Fairbanks Airport, and worked on Kodiak Island. He loved the state of Alaska and Kodiak bears. When he returned home from the Air Force, he worked at American Motors in Kenosha, WI, for Greenwood Homes, he farmed and trimmed trees for Eisentraut’s Tree Farm. Clarence was a lifetime member of the NRA.
He is survived by a sister, Lilie Sischo of Neillsville, WI, several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Pat Glidden of Humbird, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Art and Allen, several brothers and sisters in infancy a brother-in-law, Richard Sischo Sr., a nephew, Richard “Buck” Sischo Jr. and a nephew-in-law, Curt Fleischmann.
Clarence’s family will greet family and friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. A private graveside service will be held the following day at the Mentor Cemetery in Humbird, with military honors performed by the Neillsville Veteran’s Council.
