Carol Marie Mashin

September 15, 1936 — June 8, 2026

Carol Marie Mashin, 89, of Neillsville, Wisconsin, and most recently Mondovi, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Monday, June 8th, 2026, at Dove Healthcare in Osseo.

Carol was born September 15th,1936, at St. Francis Hospital in Blue Island, Illinois, at 4:25 a.m., to Waldemar "Wally" Clodfelter and Kristina Julie "Christine" Brezinsky Fik Clodfelter. She graduated from Neillsville High School on May 26th, 1955, as a member of the first graduating class from the new high school building.

On July 23rd, 1955, Carol married the love of her life, Robert Lee Mashin, at Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Neillsville. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Illinois before returning to Neillsville in 1967, where they built their life centered around family, hard work, and caring for others.

Carol began her working career at Union Special in Huntley, Illinois, where she worked until the fall of 1967. While Carol worked many jobs throughout her life-including serving as a school janitor, working in the school cafeteria, and spending many years waitressing at the Moonlight Supper Club. Her most important role was being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. When Robert was injured and unable to work, Carol stepped up without hesitation, helping provide for her family though hard work, determination, and love. She retired in 1992 from the Neillsville Schools.

To many, she was simply Grandma.

Carol was known for her quick wit, sharp sense of humor, and unmistakable sass. Her family will forever remember her signature responses: "I know that" and "I don't lie." Even in her final days, seeing her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought a smile to her face and a light to her eyes.

She enjoyed tending to her flowers, crocheting, camping, fishing, going to the casino, her video poker games, being around family, and faithfully watching NASCAR races - always cheering for her favorite driver, Jimmie Johnson. She was an incredibly talented seamstress who seemed able to fix anything with a sewing machine. She could remove stains that others thought impossible and was the person everyone turned to for advice when something needed mending. Her kitchen was another place where she shared her gifts. Her cooking brought family together, and her sugar cookies remain a staple and favorite memory for all who were lucky enough to enjoy them.

Carol's greatest joy was her family. She will be remembered for her loving heart, strong work ethic, devotion to her family, home-cooked meals, stitched seams, freshly baked cookies, and countless acts of care that were never underappreciated. The lessons she taught, the traditions she created, and the love she shared will live on through the generations she leaves behind.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

She is survived by her three children, Marvin (Linda Ives) Mashin of Neillsville, Marilyn (David Berry) Mashin of Mondovi, and Marlin (Mary Gohde) Mashin of Neillsville; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Iris (Stanley) Wampole of Madison, WI, a brother-in-law Donald (Carol) Mashin, of Neillsville, WI, Bonnie Clodfelter (Ralph) of TN, and many nieces and nephews.
