Calvin Hart Swenson

July 29, 1925 — August 21, 2017

Calvin Hart Swenson, age 92, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the comfort of his home on Monday, August 21, 2017 after dealing with several progressive medical issues over the past few years.  He was under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice.   Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 25, 2017 at Calvary Lutheran Church at 11:00 am with Pastor Chad Anderson officiating, with a visitation beginning at 10:00 am.   Cal was born on July 29, 1925 in Eau Claire, WI to parents John & Maysel (Hart) Swenson.  He graduated from Neillsville High School in 1944.  After graduation, he worked briefly at Northern States Power and then for more than 37 years at the Neillsville Post Office. Cal married the love of his life, Fern Naedler on June 15, 1955. Together they raised their four children in their home west of Neillsville.   Cal was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, downhill and cross country skiing, canoeing, watching and feeding birds and traveling. He and Fern attended 37 Elderhostel/Road Scholar programs in North, Central and South America, Africa, and Norway.  One of his most joyous accomplishments was the founding of the Half Moon Ski Club and development of Bruce Mound ski hill in the late 40s with Pink and Dick Van Gordon, Jim Hauge, attorney John Peterson and Dr. M.C. Rosekrans.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Friends of Bruce Mound, Calvary Lutheran Church or Ministry Home Care Hospice agency.   Cal is survived by his wife Fern of 62 years, his children Mark (Karen) Swenson Plover, WI, David (Linda) Swenson Richfield, WI, Neil (Susan) Swenson Stillwater, MN, and Kay (Gregg) Aiken Marshalltown, IA.  10 Grandchildren; Nate (Lauren) Swenson Seminole, FL, Joel (Tami) Swenson Concord, CA, Kari (Austin) Powell Homewood, AL, Molly (Daniel) Murgatroyd Chicago, IL, Aaron (Alicia) Swenson Chicago, IL, Angela (Matt) Peterson St. Paul, MN, Morgan Swenson San Francisco, CA, Erik Aiken Madison, WI, Ross Aiken Longmont, CO and Laura Aiken Madison, WI. Seven great grandchildren; Ella, Calvin and Evelyn Powell Homewood, AL, Henry Murgatroyd Chicago, IL, Oliver Swenson Concord, CA, Luke and Jack Swenson Seminole, FL and his brother Jon (Rita) Swenson, Westfield WI.   He is preceded in death by his parents John and Maysel, brothers James and Charles, infant brother John and two nephews.   Online Condolences may be made at www.geschefh.com.   The Gesche Funeral Home is assisting Calvin’s family with Funeral arrangements.
