Scott D Garbisch

December 23, 1956 — April 21, 2011

Scott Garbisch, age 54, of Chippewa Falls, WI died at the home of his mother in Granton, WI late Thursday, April 21, 2011 surrounded by his loving family.Scott Dwayne Garbisch was born on December 23, 1956 in Marshfield, WI the son of Marvin and Marjorie (Kirk) Garbisch. He attended school in Granton and graduated from Granton High School in 1975. He then went on to a Technical College in Milwaukee for a short time. On November 30, 1979 he was united in marriage to Denise Exley in Neillsville, WI; they later divorced. Scott was then married to Beth (Mullen) LaRock at Cornell, WI on July 16, 1994.In 1976, he and his brother, Kirk, became carneys, starting Garbisch Brothers Concessions, employing up to 16 people. His love for children was probably his primary reason for buying a merry-go-round. He continued through 1989 as a game concessionaire, ride owner and lot manager working carnivals throughout the state. He was hired at the Northern Wisconsin Center for the Developmentally Disabled in 1991 and worked as a janitor, a Resident Care Technician and a supervisor. He had a special knack for relating to the residents with humor, patience and respect. He was an RCT there until his health forced him to retire in July of 2010.Scott loved blues music and playing the harmonica. One highlight was accompanying blues musician Howard "Guitar" Luedtke on stage. He was an exceptionally skilled pool player who enjoyed motorcycles, fishing and hunting. The family will be installing a meditation bench on the family hunting grounds where Scott spent many hours tending the woods and preparing for the hunting seasons. He especially enjoyed sharing his love for the woods with the younger generation of the family. Scott was a lively character who enjoyed people and spending time with friends. He was fiercely independent (sometimes a daredevil) and will be remembered for his energetic dancing and irreverent sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, Beth (LaRock) Garbisch; a son and daughters, Zachary Garbisch of Chippewa Falls, WI, Theresa Garbisch and Nichol Garbisch, their mother, Denise Tayler of Warner Robins, GA; Erin (Trevor) Farley of Lakeville, MN, her mother, Judy (Bucheger) Volovsek of Willard, WI; and Bianca (Joshua Boote) LaRock of Elk Mound, WI; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren; his mother, Marjorie Garbisch of Granton, WI; a brother, Kirk (Katrina) Garbisch of Wrangell, AK; three sisters, Elise (Stephen) Wallick of North Bend, WA, Vida Menne of Minneapolis, MN and Zoe Miron of St. Paul, MN; and eight nieces and nephews.Preceding him in death are his father, Marvin D.
