Jeanne Skavlem, age 88, of Neillsville, WI died Tuesday, March 20, 2012 in the Palliative Care Unit of St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, WI.Jeanne Mae Skavlem was born on October 1, 1923 in Fall River, WI the daughter of Paul and Carrie (O'Brien) Freck. She graduated from Fall River High School and then earned her a Bachelor's degree in English from the University of Wisconsin Madison. On August 10, 1948 she was united in marriage to John T. Skavlem in Madison, WI. Jeanne was a teacher in the Plymouth, WI school district. She taught high school English and Latin for seven years then she took time to raise her family. When she returned to teaching, she taught as a reading specialist in the Plymouth Middle School.Jeanne was a member of the Plymouth Women's Club and a member of the Plymouth Library Board. She enjoyed playing Bridge, needle point and working in her flower garden. She was an avid reader and she loved the outdoors doing activities like cross-country skiing, canoeing and biking. She also loved to travel, first, with her husband then after his death, with her sister. Her travels included Europe, Australia and Tahiti to name a few. She is survived by two children, Jon "Ted" (Cindy) Skavlem of Franklin, WI and Bekke (Steve) Barrette of Neillsville, WI, three grandchildren, Nick Skavlem of St. Francis, WI, Jesse Barrette of Neillsville, WI and Andrew Barrette of Minnetonka, MN.She was preceded in death by her husband, John, her parents, Paul and Carrie Freck, a sister, Carrie Freck-Bade and a brother, Byron Freck.Burial and a Memorial service will take place in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Plymouth, WI at a later date.In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family for designation to the Ministry Home Care - Hospice at a later date.Funeral Home:Gesche Funeral Home4 South Grand AvenueNeillsville, WIUS 54456
