Myrle "Maasuska wiga" Thompson, age 86, of Dells Dam, WI passed away Thursday, February 26, 2015 at the St. Joseph's Medical Center in Marshfield, WI. She was born February 1, 1929 to John and Nora (Red Horn) Thompson in Allamakee, Iowa.Myrle proudly served her country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War as a Crypto Operator. She was fluent in the Ho-Chunk language and proudly possessed all the arts of language, tribal traditions, values, and social graces. She was a true Ho-Chunk Artisan and was well known for her work. Myrle loved being a mother and grandmother. She enjoyed taking care of and spending time with her family and loved her Ho-Chunk people dearly. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Her strength and selfless acts will be missed and remembered. She is survived by her daughter, Crystal Young of Neillsville, WI, grandson, Christopher Thompson of Sun Praire, WI and granddaughter, Nora Young of Black River Falls, WI, and sister, Beulah Sayers of Duluth, MN and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Nora Thompson, siblings Katherine Decorah, Lindley Thompson, Herschel Thompson, Sylvia Kingswan, Preston Thompson, John Thompson, Carver Thompson, Ralph Thompson, Freeman Thompson, an infant sister and son-in-law Billy Young. Traditional services will be held at the Dells Dam Community Center, W7015 Bush Road, Dells Dam, WI Friday through Sunday evening with Dennis Funmaker officiating. The funeral services will be held Sunday, March 1, 2015 at 12 noon at the Dells Dam Community Center. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until time of service. Interment will be in the Dewey Mike Indian Cemetery, Dells Dam, WI with Military Honors conducted by the Neillsville Veteran's Council. Online Condolences may be made at www.geschefh.com.
